Mac Jones Named National Collegiate Quarterback of the Year
The National Quarterback Club (NQBC) announced today that Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones of the University of Alabama is the National Collegiate Quarterback of the Year. The award will be presented during the 2020 National Quarterback Club Awards Dinner and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on the rescheduled event date, June 12, 2021.
Mac played his high school ball in Florida at The Bolles School and led the Bulldogs to a 12-1 record in 2016, before beginning his collegiate career at the University of Alabama. He redshirted his freshman year and served as a backup quarterback for two more years logging only four starts before entering the 2020 season as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback and team captain.
In 2020, Mac became Alabama’s all-time single-single season passing leader throwing for a staggering 4,500 yards during the undefeated 2020 season leading the Crimson Tide to its eighteenth national championship placing his name alongside some of the greatest quarterbacks and most recognizable personalities in the history of the game.
Mac’s 2020 performance included 311 completions on 402 attempts averaging 346 yards passing per game with 41 touchdown passes and a mere 4 interceptions earning him consensus All-American honors, the Manning, Davey O’Brien and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm awards and being named as a Heisman finalist.

As the entire nation watched and cheered for a successful conclusion to a year marred with chaos, Mac Jones left his mark on the college game… beyond the statistics.”
The National Quarterback Club began honoring the game’s greatest quarterbacks in 1985 by recognizing the National Quarterback of the Year in the professional, collegiate and high school ranks. Some of the game’s most recognizable personalities have been recipients of collegiate edition of the National Quarterback of the Year Award, including Vinny Testaverde (1986), Ty Detmer (1990), Peyton Manning (1997), and Carson Palmer (2002).
The 2020 National Quarterback Club Awards Dinner and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place in Scottsdale, Arizona. The ceremony will honor the 2020 National Quarterbacks of the Year in the high school, college and professional ranks. Additional honors presented during the evening will include the inductions of Roman Gabriel, James ‘Shack’ Harris, Kurt Warner and Doug Williams into the National Quarterback Hall of Fame. Tom Flores will be presented with the 2020 Legacy Recognition Award™.
